A&E Department. Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport 22-05-2009
2009. Lee Wakemans have been appointed by Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust to provide Cost Management services for the £700,000 refurbishment of their existing Accident and Emergency Department at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport.
Improving waiting times for patients and reducing turnaround times for ambulances are key aims of the project, for a unit which has to cope with the demands of seeing and treating more than 1,800 patients a week. A key part of the upgrade is a new open plan design for the ´majors´ area, where more serious treatment is provided. Safety standards for patients will benefit from improved observation facillities for staff, reducing risks and allowing better use of medical resources.
The new clinical environment will include an extra en-suite cubicle to minimise the risk of cross-infection in line with the latest healthcare standards. Refurbished trolley bays and new flooring are also included. A specially designed link corridor will bring easier and faster movement of patients from minor treatment areas to the majors unit.
